Late Afternoon Low tide

As most Lowcountry boaters know, you had best be careful being up creek when the tide is falling. However, when it is low, you can go back as far as you can.

The tide was all the way out and I was way back up a little creek on a Sunday afternoon. The marsh becomes a different place on a low tide, in the bigger creeks it is like riding in a canyon, the marsh grass above your head. The water is full of creatures that inhabit these unique ecosystems, shrimp, rays, dolphin, mullet and a myriad of creatures. The smell of pluff mud strong with the humid air.

I couldn’t go any further and was enjoying the day, my senses taking in all the marsh has to offer. I loved the curve in the creek that is almost mirrored in the clouds. I set up my camera on the oyster bank at the bottom of the composition, composed and captured the uniqueness of a late afternoon low tide. Another reminder of how lucky I am to live in such an amazing place.
